Calgary - The King's Own Calgary Regiment Band

A brass and reed band has been an integral part of the King’s Own Calgary Regiment (KOCR) since 1910. The KOCR Band is one of the two Primary Army Reserve bands in 41 Canadian Brigade Group and services the Southern Alberta area. The Band appears primarily as a concert and parade band which provides music for military, veterans and state functions as well as public performances throughout the year.

Performances

The Band performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during her 2005 visit to Calgary. In 2012, the Band joined the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra for a performance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. They regularly participate in Canada Day ceremonies in Calgary, Canmore, Banff and as far away as Yellowknife, NT.

They have performed the opening ceremonies at various Calgary Flames and Calgary Stampeders games, as well as various show jumping events at Spruce Meadows. The Poppy Kickoff ceremony at the Chinook Centre, Remembrance Day services and the St. George's Day and Peacekeeper's Day parades are regular public performances, along with a number of high-profile government and military dinners.

Rehearsals

The Band rehearses in the Military Museums on Tuesday nights from 1900 - 2200 hrs (7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.). The Museum is located at 4520 Crowchild Trail S.W. Calgary.
